Brownback claims scrutinized over Kansas job growth and education spend
A closer look at governor Brownback's assertions finds Kansas job growth lagging behind neighboring states and the nation. BEA notes Kansas growth at 1.9 percent in 2013, while Colorado and Oklahoma posted higher rates. The evaluation also questions claimed education investments, showing pension and capital aid drive total per pupil spending, not direct classroom costs, and flags flat child poverty progress.

County commission approves 2015 budget with 10 percent cuts to outside agencies
The commission settled on a 10 percent reduction for outside agencies including ACDC Compass and the Council on Aging, trimming FCEDC’s carryover to about 19 000 while preserving salary studies and preventing a mill levy hike. Mayo supported the plan though he warned of tough choices and possible levy considerations. Not all county employees receive raises next year as KPERs contributions rise to 6 percent for all workers.
