In Richmond, the Presbyterian Church (U S A) assembly narrowly rejected a plan to let regional bodies ordain gay clergy and lay officers by 259 to 255. The current interpretation banning ordination remains in effect, even for presbyteries. About 300 supporters gathered, many weeping, after the vote.
