Chief justice rebuts governor on Supreme Court reform
Kansas Chief Justice Lawson Nuss defended the judicial system in the State of the Judiciary address as he rejected Gov. Sam Brownback's plan to attach legislative approval to Supreme Court justice appointments. He warned of court furloughs and urged a $3 million funding boost to expand electronic filing while noting the courts handled thousands of criminal, probate and adoption cases in 2014.
