Kansas lawmakers heard that Gov Brownback’s pension plan to slow payments may save short term money but increase long term costs by 6.5 billion through 2043. KPERS executive director Alan Conroy warned of a larger unfunded liability and potential losses totaling hundreds of millions. The plan would freeze state contributions at 2016 levels and delay payoff of the 8.5 billion shortfall, drawing opposition from Sen. Carolyn McGinn and others.
