Finney County wind project history and obstacles
Finney County remains without a local wind turbine hub though wind capacity exists. The Buffalo Dunes Wind Farm planned for 250 megawatts faced environmental hurdles, notably the longnose snake in Sandsage Prairie. TradeWind Energy shifted to the Central Plains Wind Farm near Marienthal, with the Sunflower substation in Holcomb linking transmission lines. EGPN A North America owns Buffalo Dunes, supplying power to about 85,000 homes.
