Rain Out And Fireball Deliver Daytona 500 To Fox
Daytona Beach faced a rainout yet NASCAR turned the Great American Race into a primetime spectacle. Matt Kenseth captured his second Daytona 500 after a two lap overtime battle with Dale Earnhardt Jr and Greg Biffle as Juan Pablo Montoya’s jet fuel truck crash sparked a two hour delay. The broadcast drew 36.5 million viewers on Fox, the network’s highest Monday night total since 2010, aided by the race’s unpredictable restart and unexpected momentum for NASCAR. Jim Rome praised the event as more entertaining than a recent NFL game, citing workers using Tide to clean fuel from the track.
