Garden City man found frozen to death in Gove County

A 78-year-old Garden City resident, Francisco Frank Bribiesca, was found dead four miles northeast of US 83 in southwest Gove County. Authorities said his abandoned car, high centered on a rural road near the Chalk Pyramids, indicated he likely stayed in the vehicle Friday night as temperatures dropped to near zero. A 15 to 18 member search team had scoured the area since Monday morning after coyote hunters located the car Sunday afternoon. Gregory Bribiesca, the nephew, was notified when the car was found abandoned and helped in the search. The Chalk Pyramids lie about 35 miles northeast of Scott City. The car ignition was on and it was out of gas, suggesting the vehicle became stuck Friday. The cause of death is under investigation.
