Snow and ice bring modest moisture to southwest Kansas
After a dry spell, Garden City received 0.1 inch of precipitation as ice and snow, with 1.5 inches of total snow reported by the National Weather Service. State climatologist Mary Knapp notes the moisture benefits crops little, while Kalvesta logged 0.09 inches of precipitation and 2.2 inches of snow. Meteorologists say the moisture helps only modestly amid a moderate drought, and drivers faced few accidents as Garden City firefighters reported no injuries.

Garden City airport clears enplanement target amid funding uncertainty
Garden City Regional Airport officials say they expect about 10 1830 enplanements in 2010 and face a tough 2011 as Great Lakes Aviation cuts Kansas City service. Each year 1 million in FAA funded projects rides on at least 10 000 enplanements, with 2009 at 10 122. Aviation Director Rachelle Powell says improvements like a chemical storage building taxiway design and apron lighting are likely to proceed, but 2014 funding remains uncertain. The airport sits nine miles southeast of Garden City and aims to boost numbers despite a downward trend.
