In southeast Kansas coal mining wanes while gas and oil wells spread across Crawford and Bourbon counties. JayHawk Energy Inc. drives the activity, focusing on the Uniontown Project in Bourbon and Crawford counties and building a pipeline to expand sales, as the Cherokee Basin holds substantial coal bed methane potential.
Former Kansas health and environment chief Roderick Bremby has drawn about 18000 dollars in state pay since leaving office in November. Gov Parkinson and officials cite state law allowing non disclosure of why payments continue. Bremby stepped down after being asked to serve as transition director until Gov elect Brownback sworn in. Replacement John Mitchell issued a coal plant permit this month.
Steven Flores, 21, was arrested at 12:34 am in the 1200 block of St. John Street on fleeing and eluding obstruction and reckless driving. Isaiah Rodriguez, 15, was cited and released at 10:06 am on a city warrant for no valid driver’s license. Stephanie Marinez, 26, was arrested at 5:57 pm on a no valid driver’s license in the 3400 block of East Spruce Street. Antonio Valadez, 29, was arrested at 1:14 pm on a city warrant for traffic violation. Alfonso Morales, 21, was arrested at 3:13 pm on a failure to appear warrant for driving while suspended left of center and open container. Lauren Gleason, 29, was arrested at 7:56 pm for driving while suspended. Brandon Salazar, 20, was arrested at 8:29 pm on two counts of burglary theft and criminal damage after prying two shed locks and taking three rifle stocks. Damage loss 1000 and theft loss 300. A vehicle window was broken between 7 and 7:05 pm on North Main Street with loss 100.
Between 6 am and 7 30 pm a license plate was taken from a vehicle in the 4100 block of East U S Highway 50. Loss estimated at 300 dollars. Local police urge any witnesses to come forward.
Between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 8 30 a.m. Wednesday a person scratched a vehicle in the 2800 block of El Dorado Place. Police are investigating the incident and reviewing nearby surveillance for clues. No injuries reported.
Finney County Sheriff reports arrests at 9 25 a m 9 a m and 10 a m involving Ericka Gramajo 28 of 5735 Old Post Road cited for operating with no license and speeding. Agonagon 24 of 4300 Nancy Ave arrested for criminal damage to property at 9 a m. Dionicio Solorzana 40 of 308 Evans St arrested for operating without a license and speeding at 10 a m. Dulce Salazar 18 of 144 Honeybee Court booked at 10 30 a m for failure to wear a seat belt and driving while suspended.
