Jayhawks benefit from tough early schedule, point to growth
Kansas coach Bill Self credits a demanding non-conference slate for growth after a stumble versus Michigan State at the Champions Classic. The Jayhawks later captured Maui Invitational glory, defeating UCLA and Indiana, then won five straight at home before Christmas. Self noted the schedule’s strength may pay dividends down the line. Kansas led UC Irvine 28-26 at halftime but began with a 6-2 late first-half run amid low shooting, facing a stifling zone.
