City approves $3 monthly cut in Garden City electric charge

Garden City commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved an ordinance reducing the residential electric monthly customer charge from 22.50 to 19.50 dollars starting Jan. 1. About 9,500 residential customers will benefit while commercial and hotel or apartment tenants with bundled charges remain unaffected. The move trims annual electric revenue by roughly 353,000 dollars but preserves the electric utility’s operating reserve, estimated at 5.8 million dollars, to cover payroll, bills, disasters, and future system needs.
