Western State Bank bought The Windsor Hotel at 419 N Main St for 100000 and deeded it to the Finney County Preservation Alliance. Bank President Jeff Whitham said the transfer aims to save and renovate the 1887 built building, which closed in 1977 as a fire hazard. The alliance plans funding and grants, but faces costs and ownership challenges. Garland Furniture and Crook's Shoe Store occupy the site. city leaders view the Windsor as a key local landmark.
Garden City Regional Airport sees declining ridership on Kansas City and Denver routes. Through November, fewer than five daily Kansas City bound passengers total 1,660 year to date, with January counts higher. Denver flights show similar drops, 4,274 traveled this year vs earlier peak years. Local officials, including City Manager Bob Halloran, call the trend worrisome.
