Agencies receive $300000 grants for health initiatives
Affiliate foundations of Western Kansas Community Foundation Grant County Community Foundation and Wichita County Community Foundation each won 300000 grants through the Kansas Health Foundation GROW Healthy Kansas initiative. Western Kansas Community Foundation will divide the funds between an endowed operating fund and a broad based health fund to support health related projects. The GCCF and WCCE affiliates are among 14 community foundations in the state to receive funding.

GCHS wrestler shot and killed in home incident
No arrests have been made in three months since Garden City High School senior Braxston Medina was shot dead after entering a residence at 1625 T Bone Drive to retrieve personal property. The shooter, a 17 year old resident, is described as an acquaintance with a prior fight. Medina died at St Catherine Hospital after the 9:30 a.m. Sept 26, 2011 incident. The case remains under homicide review by Finney County Attorney John Wheeler with results pending.
