Christmas Holiday Traffic Deaths Hit All-Time High
The Associated Press reports 778 people died during the 1955 Christmas weekend in traffic, fires, and other accidents. The three-day period ran 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Monday, totaling 78 hours. The Independence Day set the all-time peak for accident deaths at 805. The safety council had forecast 560 motor deaths.

10 Holiday Deaths Reported in Kansas
Kansas records ten holiday deaths from traffic accidents across the state. Fort Riley soldiers Harry D. Stewart and Donald D. Emery, both 20, died in a two car collision west of Junction City. Wichita detectives report arrest of 43-year-old Henderson in Santa Rosa California for questioning in the death of 71-year-old Jim Ross. A Garden City couple, Chester and Mrs Keller, escaped serious injury when their late model car flipped into a ditch near Cheney corner, west of Wichita as Mr Keller headed to Veterans hospital, treated and released. The accident demolished the car. In Ness City, Ralph Gassman died in a one car crash after his vehicle left the road and struck a telephone pole, with Thomas Rupp injured. Louis Munoz faces DWI charges after an accident north of Holcomb on US 50. Mrs Perkins and Rufus Parr involved in a sideswipe on US 83 with no injuries. Perkins fined for a traffic violation.
