Snowbound barges clog Mississippi between Burlington and Keokuk
In southeast Iowa last week's blizzard and cold linger with as many as 30 southbound barges stuck in river ice between Burlington and Keokuk. Six towboats work to free them while some barges carry grain and others remain empty. Two barges had cleared Lock 19 at Keokuk toward Canton, Missouri, but progress is slow. Lockmaster Donald Pullen reports no barge traffic north of Burlington.
