Global warming may boost crop pests in Midwest
Purdue researchers project milder winters and longer growing seasons could expand ranges of four corn pests the corn earworm, European corn borer, northern corn rootworm and western corn rootworm. These insects may produce up to three generations per growing season and threaten yields, raising control costs. The study integrates a high resolution climate model with survivability data to forecast end of century impacts across the lower 48 states.
