City to begin planning on CIP projects this year

The CIP committee reviews proposed 2007 items including a new fire station and sub station and a Mary Street repaving plan. The animal shelter on Ninth St and Isabel Ave attracts the most public letters, with half of the 25 000 land purchase cost funded in 2007 and outside funding sought for the rest. The shelter build would cost 575 000 with 287 500 from outside sources. Arts Center support is also discussed. Some residents urge fiscal restraint and lower taxes. The committee will refine the list, then submit to City Manager Bob Halloran for changes. A Jan 15 meeting will finalize before City Commission approval.
