Global CO2 emissions rise 3 percent in 2011, China leads
Global carbon dioxide output reached 38.2 billion tons in 2011, up 3 percent from the prior year, with China accounting for most of the increase. The United States and Germany were among the few top emitters to cut emissions, while Kyoto Protocol participation remains unresolved. The report from the Global Carbon Project notes emissions are 54 percent above the 1990 baseline, and a decisive reduction is deemed essential to meet the 2 C goal.
