Garden City fire officials probe a Monday morning blaze at Palmer Manufacturing. Two employees were treated for smoke inhalation at St. Catherine Hospital and were reported in good condition. Windy conditions at 31 mph gusting to 41 mph hampered containment.
Finney County Commission hired Michelle Adcock, a registered nurse and new APRN, to join the Employee Wellness Clinic in mid January. Former Norton Healthcare nurse and Army Reserve veteran, Adcock brings a master of nursing and a biology background to expand acute care, education, and prevention for county employees and dependents, aiming to improve health outcomes and reduce insurance costs.
Audits by Lewis Hooper & Dick report USD 457 has one of the state's lowest local tax burdens. District auditor Gary Schlappe presented at the USD 457 Board meeting noting a mill levy of 49.19 and a local option budget of 21.9 percent of the general fund, ranking near the bottom among district peers. He noted the district remains in a similar comparative position to other districts despite a rise in the local option budget from 19.8 to 21.9 percent between 2011 and 2012.
