Coloring deters fertilizer thefts in rural states like Kansas

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation cites meth as a major problem with 649 labs seized in 2008, up from 4 in 1994. GloTell, a coloring additive, would deter meth production by making anhydrous ammonia unusable, priced to add about $9 per ton. Industry groups form a task force and some states require tank locks while Iowa studies an additive to block meth production. Farmers seek to focus on crops and families, not drug crimes.
