Iowa floods kill teen and flood central Iowa regions
Three nights of heavy rainfall swelled creeks and rivers across central and eastern Iowa forcing hundreds to evacuate. A 16 year old girl died after three cars were swept away on a rural road near Altoona. Ames faced a 24 inch water main break, draining a water tower and submerging the Hilton Coliseum arena with up to five feet of water. Several hundred Ames residents evacuated and utility crews shut gas and electric to homes. Authorities warned more storms could return Friday and Saturday.
