Grant County approves 10-year bond for Ulysses nursing home
Grant County voters approved a 7.75 million dollar 10 year bond to replace Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses. Administrator Billie Upshaw called the measure a sign of strong long-term care prospects. Groundbreaking could occur in six months and the facility may open within two years. Of 1462 votes, 923 yes and 539 no. Board chairwoman Pam Gindlesberger welcomed the margin.

New Park View adjacent facility planned with updated design
Upshaw outlines a new building next to Park View Assisted Living meeting state fire marshal standards and expandable for baby boomers. The 1966 facility plus 1977 addition would need over 3 million in repairs to stay open. Financing relies on a tax increase for an $80,000 home, about 25 more dollars yearly, while a new library bond costs $9 annually per homeowner.

Grant and Gray Counties See Wide Primary Turnout Gap
Grant County posted 39 percent turnout driven by two Republican commissioner races and a $7.75 million 10 year bond for an elderly care home. Madison M. Traster and Carl Higgs won Districts 2 and 1 respectively. 923 of 995 home care ballot votes approved the measure. Gray County's turnout fell to 17 percent amid a limited Democratic ballot and multi race options for statewide posts, with Beattie winning secretary of state in the county and apathy noted by County Clerk Bonnie Swartz.
