Voters flocked to ballot boxes in Finney County as primary contests drew steady turnout. At the Finney County Public Library 40 residents voted by 8:30 a.m. Agnes Swank reported 50 at First United Methodist by 9:15. Swank and Vi Fry noted steady flow at St. James Lutheran Church with 80 by 9 a.m. Key contests include state Board of Education between Sally Cauble and Connie Morris and Kansas House District 123 between Jeff Whitham and Roy Dixon. The winner faces Tim Cruz in November.
The Finney County Economic Development Corp. backs a five-year sales tax plan funded by the current U.S. Highway 50 West expansion tax, with a sunset likely in spring 2008. It would aid existing businesses, attract new industry, and include a reserve fund for loans and incentives. The FCEDC seeks county commission oversight of major expenditures and taxes. Voters will decide in April 2007 on funding the revitalization plan and an industrial park.
