Little Jerusalem chalk formations opened by Smoky Valley Ranch
The Nature Conservancy owns the 85 million year old Niobrara Chalk site 20 miles north of Scott City Kansas near US 83. Smoky Valley Ranch coordinator Matt Bain sees Little Jerusalem as a major nature destination with trails, fossil conservation, and a no collection policy while partners plan access. The area contains giant clams oyster and barnacle fossils and supports unique flora including Great Plains Wild Buckwheat. The Sternberg Museum will be called for major finds and opening details remain to be announced. For information contact Smoky Valley Ranch.
