Kansas House sends strong-beer measure to Senate
The Kansas House approved an emergency final action sending a bill to the Senate. The measure would allow 3.2 percent beer licenses to stock up to 6 percent beer by April 1 2019 and permit retailers to sell nonalcoholic merchandise up to 20 percent of total gross sales while liquor stores could sell cigarettes and lottery tickets. The bill aims to ease sales in convenience grocery and drug stores amid a long running clash between large chains and small independent liquor retailers led by Uncork Kansas.
