Supreme Court rules SORNA cannot prosecute off ender for moving abroad
The U S Supreme Court on Monday ruled a Kansas sex offender could not be prosecuted under the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act for moving to the Philippines without notifying authorities. Justices said SORNA did not require updating registration when residing outside the United States, though Nichols remained subject to state law for failure to update in Kansas. The decision preserves the national registry framework while addressing travel abroad notices and future federal changes.
