Legislature poised to sign school equity plan in Kansas
Kansas lawmakers expect Gov. Sam Brownback to sign a school funding reform bill by Friday to address a Supreme Court ruling on inequity. The plan reallocates 83 million dollars to ensure no district loses money in 2016 17, with the governor having 10 days to act or let it become law. Brownback praised progress while noting resource limits and the broader litigation on education funding.

Sky's the limit for local air traffic controller
Mike Sherman keeps watch from a five story tower at Garden City Regional Airport east of Garden City. He recalls 9 11 when diverted traffic filled the field including two Boeing 757s a United and a U S Airways plane an Air Canada Airbus and many smaller aircraft. The nearby Sunflower plant serves as a landmark as Sherman notes Garden City is a key diversion point due to being the only towered airport within hundreds of miles. The airport handles about 70 operations daily including corporate flights from Target Menards and Loves and cross country fuel stops for coast to coast flights. Military training from Vance AFB and Navy flights from Corpus Christi are common with F 18s F 16s and V 22 Ospreys frequently in and out.
