Investor buys Zurbaran paintings in Durham castle pullback
In Durham northeast England a 59 year old investor Jonathan Ruffer bought a set of Zurbaran religious paintings kept at a castle since 1756 after the Church of England offered them for sale to fund ministry in poorer areas. Campaigns to keep the art in Britain sparked petitions and talks on broadened access. The works include twelve paintings from 1640 to 1645 and a Benjamin portrait copied by Arthur Pond.
