Warren Boy Gets Good Position in New York Central

Will Carlton, a Cornell graduate of 1861, will take charge on October first of the New York Central power plants now under construction. Three large plants employing about four hundred men will supply current for trains entering and leaving New York City. Carlton rose from humble beginnings to become a leading electrical engineer with expertise in underground construction. His career includes time with the Chicago Edison Company and recognition as a top expert in his field.

Freeport Bulletin reports Freeport may quit the league next year and field an independent team if a satisfactory arrangement isn’t reached. Local games attract strong crowds but high railroad fares erode profits. Colonel Dietrich state inspector of rifle practice urges an earlier selection of the state rifles team for 1906 to allow more practice time before the national match. Illinois placed eighth at Seagirth in a field of 37 led by New York. on day two with 98 contestants, Illinois had 11 shooters on the line, the most of any team. A curiosity from Jamaica arrives at the Maryland Academy of Sciences. A huge white ant nest three and a half feet in diameter forms from tree sap. Ants build at tree bases or branches and constrict from the inside, resembling hornets in structure but dark brown in color.

Seventeen Inning Tie Game In Pearl City

Stockton Herald reports a 4 4 tie between Stockton and Pearl City after seventeen innings. No runs scored after the eighth, game called with the tie unresolved. Joe Gundry suffered head and back injuries from a rock while unloading for Dr. Nan’s cellar wall. Miss Ethel Harte, Bret Harte’s daughter, died in London and drew sympathy from English literary figures who form a fund committee.
