Attempted suicide by John Haas at West Street home
John Haas a well known resident on West Street attempted self destruction with a revolver Tuesday morning firing two shots into his head. He was found unconscious with profuse bleeding and, despite physicians removing one bullet, his condition remained precarious with death expected by 4:30 pm.

Mrs Phoebe Norris age eighty two died at her Turnpike home after a brief illness of heart trouble. A native of Mobile Alabama born October 12 1828 she was a respected pioneer resident of Galena leaving four children Lucy R. McClure Alice Rebecca Bouton John B Norris and David L Norris. Funeral arrangements not yet definite.
