Death of Galena Pioneer Valentine Dietz at 82
Valentine Dietz, a longtime Galena merchant and citizen, died at his Elk Street home Wednesday morning after six months of ill health. He was 82, celebrated his birthday in November, and is survived by his wife who died five years ago and children Frank Savanna Benjamin Elgin Mrs Kirchbaum Chicago Mrs Becker and Miss Annie Omaha and Miss Bertha Tenie Minnie Galena. Funeral set for Saturday at St Marys Catholic church with interment in the Catholic cemetery.

Bridal Couples Enroute on Sidney to St Paul from St Louis
The Sidney docked at Dubuque with a light passenger list due to season, but carried ten travelers on its first trip to St Paul. Five bridal couples from St Louis enjoyed wedding trips along the Mississippi, gatherings seen on the hurricane deck as the big steamer moved toward St Paul. The voyage continued toward 2 o'clock, reaching St Paul early Tuesday morning.

Despondent Wisconsin woman hangs self in barn
Millie Robinson, about 40, a member of a prominent Platteville family, hanged herself from a barn rafter near her home early Tuesday. Her brothers found the body warm but lifeless after an inquest called by the coroner. She had been despondent over illness and retired Monday night.

School Board Meets With Long Evening Session
A lengthy Tuesday session of the newly appointed Board of Education at the Council Chamber included election of William Biesman as secretary, a raise in salary, and approval to use past year rules. Superintendent Clark reported enrollment 663 with 90 percent attendance and noted a University of Illinois summer school offer with a free scholarship for one teacher in every high school. The board discussed building plans after a fire and correspondence with the Board of Prison Industries on material supply and contracts. Committees were named for 1905 and various job postings and repairs were authorized, with adjournment after routine business.
