House Passes Shurtleff Bill on Third Reading in House

The House approved the Shurtleff bill on its third reading by 84 to 56 with three Republicans joining Democrats against it. The emergency clause was dropped. Senate Bill No. 5 was amended and passed 83 to 56 and now goes to the Senate, which may concur or return for a conference. The chamber adjourned to 10 a.m. tomorrow. Also noted is a Y M C A junior outing Saturday and a Friday night visit by Bishop John H. Vincent who will preach at the M E church.

Mining Notes Highlight Platteville Area Hoisting Rich Ore

Weigel Mining Co of Platteville leads a mob of forty investors surveying the Weigle farm area southeast of Platteville where six drill holes yielded ore in five holes. Reports say sheets of jack ore 1 to 2 feet thick extend across a 120 foot width and 1200 feet length with ore percentages up to 32. Old Etox mine shows long lead ore body near Benton

Brenton Wisconsin May 8 28 feet from the surface the old Etox mine east of Benton reveals five feet of ore at a depth of 28 feet on an east west range. The ore body 26 feet wide is thought to extend nearly a mile along the range by veteran miners. The mine has yielded thousands of tons of lead ore in recent years with drilling across the property seeking the heaviest bodies.

May 8 Mineral Point notes show no fuel shortage risk this week as Ross Bros secured coal from Chicago and Tripoli Hazel Patch remains supplied. Freeport Mining Firms Strike High Grade Ore at Padelty Farm

The Freeport Mining and Development company have struck jack and lead and also sulphur on the Padelty farm near Benton. Three holes have been drilled on this lease and cuttings show a high grade of ore in all. It is the intention to sink a shaft immediately and start development work at once.
