IC Conductor John Sundberg Dies in Freeport
John Sundberg former Illinois Central conductor born July 18 1864 in transit to Sweden died at Freeport after a long illness. He worked from Galena to Chicago with stops in Dubuque and East Dubuque, married Cecelia Rittmeier in 1894, and lived in Freeport five years. Funeral held at Freeport residence.

Infant Nearly Scalded as Plug Pull Causes Burn
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Orin Dunaway of East Freeport suffered severe scalds when a wooden plug in a washing machine allowed boiling water to gush over him. The mother, after filling the machine, left to attend another room and the child pulled out the plug, receiving burns to the left arm and leg, with the left hand left fleshless. Dr W B Peck treated the boy who was rushed to aid. the incident was reported by the Freeport Journal.

A Mississippi porter at Connor Bros. shoe store discovered a hidden envelope among sweepings containing eighty one thousand nine hundred eighty eight dollars and twelve cents plus bank checks and papers belonging to Dr. J. A. B. Sikes of Iron City Georgia. The find was made after a patrolman retrieved the envelope. A separate note from Pittsburg reports a mayoral threat to kill Controller John B. Larkin. A measles outbreak on the ship Haverford affected 200 children aboard. Birchwood Wisconsin suffered a disastrous fire with estimated losses around 50 thousand dollars. The Ahnapee Veneer plant is noted as a major casualty in the disaster.
