Aged Galena Lady Dies Sudden 73

Sophia Gruntzmacher Mueller dies at 73 after a paralytic stroke recurred. A German immigrant who settled in Galena in 1852, she married Jacob Mueller in 1856 and lived here for decades. Funeral services were held at her residence with Rev Pilz officiating.

Chicago Market Report Shows Cattle and Hogs Mixed Feeds

Chicago market report dated August 29 lists cattle receipts at 1,900 with varied prices across grades from good to fancy steers at 5.75 to 6.85 and common to good at 4.80 to 5.75. Hog receipts 28,000 show 10 to 15 lower, with good to choice butchers at 6.20 to 6.40 and heavy mixes 5.60 to 6.06. N F Moore returned from a ten day visit to South Dakota where he observed ideal crops. Oats may yield 100 bushels per acre and wheat over 60, flax also prospers. He noted large grain samples from Roberts and Marshal counties and visited J R Woulph now owning 1000 acres. The region shows signs of prosperity as farmers harvest with eight binders at Woulph’s. Funeral details for Mrs Heillmeyer of Shullsburg are given.
