Morenci Publisher George C Bacon Dies After Illness
Morenci Observer co owner and publisher George C Bacon died at his Morenci home on March 4 following a seven day illness. He graduated Oberlin College and spent years in journalism including as associate editor and publisher of the Wabash Plain Dealer before moving to Morenci in 1916 to form a partnership that published the Observer. Bacon was 66 and burial was in Oberlin. The obituary notes his genial temper and strong judgment.
