Reverend Cheever Urges Wage Freedom as Slavery Sin

The Rev. Gov. B. Cheever preached last evening on Northern Strikes and Southern Slavery, arguing wage labor without pay is slavery and calling for abolition. He contrasted Christian duty with slaveholding, urged masters to pay fair wages, and warned that preserving slave society endangers the nation’s future and economy. Also reports two youths burned to death in Independence Centre fire, a steamboat disaster near Island 16 with seven missing, and a tragic detached head incident in Howard County woods.
