Execution of John Omie and Indian Death Tale
An 1812 execution at Sandusky Creek near Pipo Creeky details the hanging of John Omie also called John Hieson of Omie, for killing two white men. The report from Elisha Whitlesey, governor, recounts the gallows setup on the Public Square, the clergy, Major Jones, Sheriff Baldwin, and the dramatic twist as the rope snapped and the body swung before a fatal fall.
