Delaware Crossing returns dust up in county court
In a lengthy courtroom session Governor Denver and the Council’s presiding officers observed the opening of a wood box containing election returns. The documents, claimed to be the Delaware Crossing ballots, were examined by Mr. Babcock and Mr. Douster, with officials stating the records had previously been examined in another setting. The committee ordered the returns kept for ten days before returning them to the Governor, amid rumors of fraud and missing papers tied to Lawrence correspondence.
