Immense Loss of Life in Coolie Trade Collision

A Baltimore clipper Flora Temple struck a reef in the China Sea on the Lith of October and foundered, engulfing 850 souls. The Captain and thirty escaped in a boat after thirteen days at sea, reaching land. The disaster underscores calls to abolish the coolie trade, deemed second only to the African slave trade. Other items note a grand union meeting of Kentucky Tennessee and Ohio governors, a thanks to donors, a burglary at 5 P Meng & J Co boot and shoe store, a contested story of a negro attack near Anderdon, Canada West, and an expulsion of Mason and Bracken counties citizens over slavery opinions, plus a Nebraska convention bill passage.
