Fragmented historic musings and farm notes in a long column
A jumbled miscellany mixing antiquated verse, royal estate observations at Windsor, detailed farm practices, and archival notices. The writer recounts Queen Victoria era stables, garden staff, and crops, then shifts to famine era starvation, pirate-like legends, ship exhibitions, political dispatches, and vivid anecdotes from Cape Cod, Texas, and Ohio.
Barbarous slave abuse reported near Dodson Gap
The Columbus Georgia Herald recounts a brutal incident where two overseers Frederick Wright and Thomas McCrary tied a slave to a beach tree near Dodson Gap, whipped him for hours with feather straps and beech taws, poured turpentine on wounds, and left him in heat before he died about twenty four hours later. The overseers face rewards of 120 dollars and 50 dollars.
