In a Missouri camp called Fiddler in a saloon named Mary's Eyes Velvet Jack is tried for Mud's murder after Mud wins at faro then is shot by Velvet. The widow Mud requests Velvet be executed by marrying her. Velvet is sentenced to marry her, crowd cheers, and the couple sails away for California, leaving the Flat in postwar revelry.
