Saturday night fire in a Dobbs Street building sparked by a chimney igniting lath near a meat market. John Mundy, who had a new refrigerator and groceries in the room, escaped loss as the fire was promptly extinguished with minimal damage despite temperatures near zero. The Ford fire wagon arrived quickly, earning city-grade praise for response.
Fishermen Charles Sheets and Lyman Caswell return with a claim of twenty bass in twenty minutes at Fish Lake. Neighbors worry crowds will swamp the lake if the secret becomes public. Last Friday February 9 the Steuben County National Farm Loan Association was organized in the County Agent’s office with fourteen charter members. The group aims for loans totaling 38200 and awaits the Federal Farm Loan Bank opening in Louisville Kentucky to begin operations. Charter members listed include Jesse E. Lucas Hugh Roberts Truman Roberts John Anspaugh A B Stroh Warren Leas A A Spangler William A Barrows C O Jones Chas Libey Walter C Mortorff Morris Hanson Ottomer Alleshouse and Lowell Deller. Indiana's 1913 Vocational Education Law allows high schools to add agricultural departments with two thirds state aid. Prof Z M Smith visited Pleasant Lake and Metz to explain hiring conditions for a full year agricultural teacher who will guide summer club work and teach both regular and agricultural classes. Trustees approved timing for a September start and will locate a trained educator. Star Theater advertises The Battle Cry of Peace and Marvelous Maciste with early ticket sales and a Feb 22 magazine giveaway to accompany shows.
During parliamentary practice Tuesday morning Amos Michael and Lois Goudy wed. Grace Sunday and Leon Dotts served as bridesmaid and groomsman, Harold Lint officiated, with Miriam McNaughton playing the wedding march. The ceremony proceeded and the couple joined the day’s studies.
