In 1881 Fremont announces the end of its news sheet and plans a new daily Farmour Daily Journal with telegraph and local news. Rates: 2 cents per single copy, 4 cents a week for town subscribers, 25 cents per month for country clubs. large ads from C McCulloch and other merchants. Reports include military movements and global events, with prices and distribution details.
Albany Journal notes voluntary contributions for the year exceed threefold those of Great Britain during the war, praising patriotism. Tennessee and Nashville papers report votes on the Ordinance of Secession. a convoy carries six thirty-two pounders from Pittsburgh to Chicago. Reports from Washington describe a fortified capital, troop movements, and preparations to block the Mississippi and Virginia lines. Great Eastern voyage to Britain and Lords discuss intervention in America. London press favors loyal states with potential conflicts if the North resists.
