Stephenson County Whig Nominees Rally Behind Unity

The Whig County Convention assembled on Monday represented every town with unanimity and enthusiasm. George Reitzell is nominated for Sheriff and L W Guiteau for Clerk of the Circuit Court. The ticket includes a Whig legislator candidate, Thomas Egan for Coroner, and C B Dexso for Representative alongside David Wiley.

Rockford Whig Convention Summary and Nomination

Report from the Rockford Whig Convention describes candidate lists for the nomination. After the third ballot the Stephenson delegation withdrew Clark, and Washburne won on the second ballot with twenty eight of forty seven votes. The convention ended with unity and a shared aim to support and elect the ticket.

Locofocos Conventioneers Nominate in Freeport and Rally at Rock Island

The Locofocos held their county convention in Freeport on Saturday. They nominated Dr Nanamong for representative Frepabiox Baxer for sheriff J B Sara for circuit clerk and Geo Hantsouci for coroner. Turner allies won most delegates to the Rock Island convention on Sept 21, with Campbell restored as a Democratic leader. A Whig gathering is urged at Rock Island to energize support for a Whig Congressional victory.

Clark declines district attorney bid at Rockford meeting

At a Whig Convention delegates meeting in Rockford on Wednesday from fourteenth district counties, the author recalls support for his district attorney candidacy. Charles A. Clark of Freeport states he will not be a candidate, saying personal reasons drove the decision, not politics, in a September 8, 1852 notice.

New Improvement Near Freeport Dam and Mill

A report describes a new dam across the Pecatonica River five miles east of Freeport and one mile north of the Chicapo road. The rapid water and rocky bottom yield ample power, with a stone quarry at the site and a saw mill planned to operate by January. The area is healthy, timbered, and attractive for manufacturing investment.

Nominations and political notes from the 1st and 2nd districts

The Whigs nominate William B. Cassilly in the 1st District and J B Hattison in the 2nd. Samuel W. Parker seeks reelection in the 6th. The Collins Line reports 50 voyages, about 9,000 passengers with no fatalities. Free State convention at Uranville nominates D A Knowlton for Governor and Philo Carpenter for Lieutenant Governor. Stephenson County circuit court term begins Monday the 16th. A Whig jokes Scott has given up the presidency bid, saying he can beat Pierce on a walk.

Arrival of Benton and Ingersoll in Washington

Washington reports the arrival of Senator Benton of Missouri and Hon. J. R. Ingersoll the newly appointed minister to England in place of Abbott Lawrence. Both arrived in the city on August 25 1852 and are presented as notable new figures in diplomacy and politics.

Whig nominees named for several districts and posts

In the XXIIt District David Ritchie is the Whig nominee for Congress and in the XXIId Thomas M Howe. Hon Ner Middlesworth of Union Co is the Whig candidate in the XIIth District. It is reported Hon James Brooks may succeed Mr Hall as Postmaster General. Ms Hall will be confirmed as District Judge of Northern New York.

Stephenson County Whigs Nominate At 1852 Convention

The convention elected E. H. D. Sanborn temporary chairman and P. Swonly secretary. Delegates numbered 66 from all towns. Officers named included Dr. L. H. Cutler as president and Drs. Martin and Fuller as vice presidents with James Flamsburgh as secretary. A five member credentials committee reported full attendance and the body adopted resolutions endorsing Winfield Scott for president and W. A. Graham for vice president. Delegates to Rockford were chosen: Adams, Sheetz, Babcock, Clark, Gray, and Hunt.

Whig Welcome Promised for Francis Aixer in Stephenson

Francis Aixer will arrive from the eastern part of the state within a week or ten days to be greeted by warm Whig reception in Old Stephenson. Capt. HIE Gear of Galena spoke to the local Whigs at the court house last evening, praising Gen. Scott and recounting War of 1812 and Black Hawk War service. The speech drew thunders of applause from a large audience.
