Lack of advertisement ends in empty goods and idle talk
A reflective chunk from a 19th century column discusses value and advertisement, noting that a person who finds something and does not advertise or seek the owner is to be watched. It then covers local events: a peaceful night in Freeport, the successful Freeport Turnverein Fair with prizes, sermons by Dr. Stocking in Zion Church, a curtain lecture on Adams street, Col. Gee L. Montague’s visit, and a pamphlet on St. Louis as a future great city. It mentions James Youman’s choir and an upcoming Song of the Nations concert with a 200-voice chorus and full orchestra. Sterling hosted a deaf-mute wedding celebrated with sign language, described as the state’s most splendid ceremony.
