Springfield coal shaft under way to start by July
A new coal shaft is being sunk at Springfield with mining operations expected to begin by July. General Alfred Redington, longtime Sacramento Navigation Co. executive, died in San Francisco on Saturday morning the 22d. In Brooklyn, Jacob Young murdered his second wife then killed himself at his first wife’s grave. In St Louis a disease nearly like cerebrospinal meningitis hit a street car stable, killing four horses and leaving twelve sick. Veterinarians fear an epidemic spread as cases appeared citywide.
