A Trip to New Zealand by Sailing Vessel in 1876

A letter from John Watts, nephew of Dr. Warts, details a 1876 voyage from New York to Dunedin, New Zealand. He recounts cruel conditions aboard a ship, scarce provisions, conflicts with the steward, mutinous incidents, and perilous seas including gales near the Cape and long days at sea, ending with arrival at Port Chalmers after 129 days and 18,421 miles sailed.
