German Picnic Celebrates Fourth of July at Goddard’s Grove

German citizens held a grand Sabbath afternoon Fourth of July picnic in Goddard's grove by the river on the Cedarville road. Weather was delightful and hundreds gathered to enjoy shade by the river bank while a full brass band provided splendid music.

Severe rebuke leads to pledge after Murphy lecture

In Naylor's barber shop a gray clad man revealed he was Murphy and challenged a traveling man who accused him of vulgar expressions. Murphy denied insults, rebuked intemperance, and urged the pledge, prompting the traveler to attend his Sterling lecture. The traveler later admitted the rebuke was severe and pledged.

Suicide suspected in field near Dunleith body found

The well dressed Black man was found in Rice's field near Dunleith with a lemon in one hand and an orange in the other. An unfolded druggist package lay nearby suggesting suicide. The body was buried where found.

The Story of Her Life Pamphlet Remembrance

A tender memorial notes a deceased woman loved by family and friends. The pamphlet shows a frontispiece with her likeness and four surviving children plus two angel figures. The author initials F.G.
