The New Illinois State House Report Summary
The State House Commissioners report filed in the Governor's office shows total expenditures through November 30, 1872 of 1,597,456.81 dollars, with 805,208.08 dollars reported previously. Expenditures from December 1, 1870, to November 30, 1872 amount to 792,258.70 dollars. The work to date costs less than original estimates, suggesting completion and grounds fencing could cost well below the constitution’s 8,500,000 dollar provision. Under the best conditions, about two years needed to arrange space for offices and legislature, and four years to complete, with 1,000,000 dollars needed for 1878-4. Architects Cochrane & Piquenard also provide a report.
