He urges uniting reform forces on two candidates while criticizing Sewall and noting Maine's weak ward vote. McKinley Receives Old Soldiers in Cantons Visit

Canton Ohio September 16 The reception for McKinley was enthusiastic as Cantonians, the Woman's Relief corps and thousands joined the parade to McKinley’s home. Every county post and many from nearby counties represented. Major McKinley was cheered repeatedly while delegates from Somerset over 2000 passed and State Senator Critchfield spoke. Richard Kerens of Missouri attended. Missouri to send the first big western farmer delegation October 5 via the Santa Fe road.

Sound money Democrats seek a ballot name in Illinois

The sound money Democrats must soon choose a name for their party to appear on the Illinois ballot. Secretary Hinrichsen prohibits any name with Democrat, and the Australian ballot law makes the secretary of state and attorney general the decisive court. A petition plan will require fifty voters from every county and a legal committee, including Judge Moran, William Asay, and W W Wheelock, to secure recognition.

Surprise shifts Bryan wing gains state Democratic control

New Haven Sept 16 One of the greatest surprises on the eve of the state Democratic convention was the unreserved resignation of the Democratic state central committee, long led by gold standard men, in favor of the Bryan faction. The committee met to set the preliminary program and named William Kennedy temporary chairman. Kennedy is a free silver advocate and Davis, Secretary Brown and several committeemen also resigned.

National Democratic chiefs to speak in New York rally

Leadville Colorado on September 16 report that the miners union issues a card proposing to lease all downtown mines drain and operate them. The plan pays owners 25 percent royalty and the $3 labor scale. A $100,000 guarantee bond would be furnished.
